PBIS
Four Agreements
At Bloomingdale Elementary we use the PBIS system to help students shine their light. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports. Students who are following our agreements and rules throughout the building, on the playground and the buses can earn Bear Paws. Our Bear Paws are collected in a Honey Pot for each classroom and the class with the most Bear Paws for that month wins the 1st prize at our end of month celebration assembly. 1st and 2nd place classrooms celebrate their effort by having a special treat. Sometimes it is extra recess, a popcorn party with movie or another activity that the class has voted on as a way to celebrate their success in following the rules and agreements. We also celebrate individual students for shining their light by awarding a citizen of the month from each class as well as good sports award, lunchroom award, upstander award and golden dustpan and recycling awards. Please feel free to come join us at one of our assemblies...they are a lot of fun and each class has signed up to present an assembly this year so you can come see your child shine! The schedule for our assemblies can be found bellow.
In our school and classroom, we make our best effort each and every day to follow The Four Agreements. The book, written by Don Miguel Ruiz, gives us four basic agreements that when followed, make all aspects of our life easier and happier. We also follow the Golden Rule: Treat Others the Way You Want to be Treated. We call this our 5th Agreement.
The Four Agreements are:
Be Impeccable with your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.
Don't Take Anything Personally: Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.
Don't Make Assumptions: Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
Always Do Your Best: Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.
We also Follow the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
If we are following our agreements there is a really good chance we are following the golden rule!
